OUR STORY

If there was an Academy Award for “Best Canadian Antique Dealer”, the late Jim Miller would have had many people to thank in his winning speech starting with an old boss. He was barely out of high school when the fellow he worked for won the Irish Sweepstakes and hastily closed his shop. The sudden loss of Jim’s job, combined with the sudden and tragic death of his sister, sparked two philosophies that stayed with Jim the rest of his life:

“First, I decided I would never again have a job where I was under another person’s control. Second, I pledged I would live my life with gusto, to have no regrets”.

Jim became interested in nostalgia at a very young age. It was around the age of six that initiated his curiosity, a time when he was buried knee-deep in mud and digging up buried bottles with his uncle Stan. Such activity sparked an interest that fuelled a lifelong passion. He founded “J.C. Miller Antiques” and soon became known for Canadian excellence. Much of the country’s best antiques and automobilia passed through his hands. Although his life was cut short by cancer in 2010, his legacy was not.

On his vicarious trip through life, Jim brought with him a couple of “sponges” (as he called them) that quietly soaked in each experience. Justin and Ethan took the lessons learnt from their father and adapted them into a business of their own. You may recognize them. They sold Paul Newman’s $250,000 Woody Wagon on CBC’s television series “Four Rooms” and appeared as guest appraisers on Storage Wars. Their search for Canada's most authentic, original and exceptional collections has led them far and wide.

Launched in 2006, the two sons of Jim Miller’s were running one of Canada’s top eBay accounts. Their ongoing success has paved the way for Miller & Miller Auctions: sellers of high value collections. Since then it has become one of Canada’s fastest growing online auction companies, handling some of the country's most important collections. This should be no surprise as Ethan and Justin Miller were following the exact footsteps of their father.

It took an Irish Sweepstakes, a multi-generational passion for historical objects, and an uncompromising commitment to quality to build what you see today. The Miller family is proof that like the rarest discovery, excellence can carry over generations.
