We Sell Your Gramophones
Overview
It seems unfathomable in our age of digital music streaming, but if you wanted to listen to music prior to the mid 1800s, you had only one option: live. This changed in 1877 when Thomas Edison unveiled his revolutionary invention: the phonograph - a machine that used cylinders to record and reproduce sound. It wasn’t the first device to record and play back audio, but it was the first ‘reliable’ one: distorted and nearly inaudible by today’s standards, but it worked. Soon after, Emile Berliner invented the flat disk record and the world of recorded sound was changed forever.
