Phyllis Cosman

Phyllis Cosman (1927–2020) was a carver from Nova Scotia. She discovered her passion for carving in 1984. A mother of four grown children, Phyllis dedicated herself to the art of small polychrome carvings. Her work often depicted people from her community. She participated in various folk art festivals from 1990 to 1994. In 1995, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia acquired the majority of her work, recognizing the distinctiveness of her creations. Phyllis faced limitations due to arthritis after 1996, reducing her carving output. Consequently, her intricately crafted works have become increasingly rare and sought after.
