We Sell Your Rolex

Overview

In modern-day society, determining the time is never an issue. Smartphones have become an extension of our bodies; we are constantly updated, alerted, and notified in an automated fashion. Although these devices have replaced the necessity of the wristwatch, nothing than replace the allure and sophistication of sporting a luxury timepiece on your wrist.

Rolex SA is a British-founded Swiss watch designer and manufacturer based in Geneva. Originally named ‘Wilsdorf and Davis’, founders Hans Wildorf and Alfred Davis trademarked the word ‘Rolex’ in 1908 and renamed the company ‘Rolex Watch Co. Ltd’ in 1915. They chose the word ‘Rolex’ as it was easily pronounceable in any language, and short enough to fit on the face of a watch. In the beginning, Wilsdorf and Davis' main business involved importing Hermann Aegler's Swiss movements to England and placing them in watch cases made by Dennison and others. These early wristwatches were sold to jewellers, who then put their own names on the dial. The earliest watches from Wilsdorf and Davis were usually hallmarked "W&D" inside the caseback. Eventually, they decided to build their own products from scratch, with their most notable success being the ‘Oyster’ design – a waterproof and dustproof case which prevented the infiltration of dust and moisture under the dial and crown of the watch. Over the years, Rolex has continued to push boundaries to develop innovative, complicated watch designs to establish its place as an industry leader.
