We Sell Your Trade Stimulators

Overview

Feeling lucky? Trade stimulators were countertop machines used to encourage customers to indulge in a game of chance. First spotted in American saloons during the 1880s, trade stimulators quickly became a storefront staple in cigar shops, confectionaries and general stores across North America. Similar to the slot machine design, customers could operate the stimulator by inserting a coin and pulling a lever. If a winning combination appeared, a prize was awarded. Prizes included cigars, cigarettes, candy and other small goods. During periods of gambling prohibition, these machines could still be used as they were marketed as a ‘game’ rather than a gambling activity.
